I mean in all fairness the manga is alright. The anime is a straight up terrible adaptation, I remember me and my friends marathoning it groaning all the way to the end

Absolutely. Not even touching the anime. The manga is pretty good, but the anime is a waste of time. You could maybe watch it after the manga just to see how bad of an adaptation it is.
